What sets 'Sum and Substance' apart is its colossal size, 'Sum and Substance' is specially well suited for Finland and for us in our zone I garden it produces the largest leaves of any variety we have tried (up to 60 cm in ideal conditions) and establishes much faster than other cultivars to form a substantial plant in just a few seasons. The foliage emerges a fresh green in spring, maturing into a rich, deep green in full shade or transitioning into golden-chartreuse when grown in open sun. In July sturdy stems of lilac flowers rise above the foliage.
